Specialist in the field of information technologies
In the list of promising specialties direction of information technology (Information Technologies, IT) occupies a special place. This industry has already changed the world and continues to play a key role in its further change.
Without computers we can not do, and people who understand them – everywhere in great demand. Canada, Germany and other countries give the green light to foreign IT-specialists, just to fill the existing vacancies.
“Within five years, the company will either be presented on the Internet or cease to exist,” – said in 1999, the head of the Corporation Intel Andy Groves (Andy Groves). His prognosis then seemed too categorical statement, but today even pessimists are forced to admit that he was right. To resist the computerization of society is meaningless. And if so, the world needs more and more it professionals.
Who are they? These are system administrators, programmers, web designers and other fighters of the invisible front serving the computer world. All of them – with the right skills and experience – are in great demand in the global labour market. For example, the information Technology Association of America (Information Technology Association of America) published data according to which 10.4 million people work in the field of IT in the United States, and another 900 thousand positions remain vacant, and half of them can not find suitable candidates. And the Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, which turned into the Silicon valley of Europe, in 2000 specially made a tour of India, convincing qualified programmers to go to work in the country of the Celts. Germany, Canada and Australia are also making special efforts to attract programmers.
At the same time, computer specialists can count on quite high earnings. In the US, they receive $60-115 thousand per year, depending on their qualifications and positions. According to research TMP Worldwide, in London IT-Director earn up to 202 thousand pounds (GBP), and the usual web designer – 47 thousand. For comparison, the nurse receives an average of 18.3 thousand GBP per year in the UK. Graduates of Australian universities can expect to earn from 36 thousand Australian dollars (AUD) per year. Well, if you take the inhabitants of heaven, the Creator of Oracle Larry Ellison has already earned $47 billion. and one of Microsoft’s fathers bill gates with his $85 billion is the richest man on Earth.
We have a profession of a computer programmer now is also prestigious and well paid. There is a constant demand for specialists in this field. Therefore, many students are arranged to earn money already in the second or third year, no problems with finding a place they usually do not arise. Experts talk about the great possibilities of the so-called offshore programming, when foreign companies place orders for software development in Ukraine.
So, there are five advantages of IT-specialization. First – the work is interesting, there are many opportunities for self-realization. Second – you can earn a lot. Third – unemployment is not threatened. Fourth , you can work in almost any country. Fifth , you will be a really necessary person, you will help people, and for many of us the realization of this is really important.
Now it’s time to figure out where and on what conditions you can learn the specialties of this direction.
How to become a programmer?
To work in the field of IT, you need to have a developed logical thinking, good mathematical training, know English (universal language of the computer community) and be on you with the computer. There are no problems with the last point: now many families have computers, and children have the opportunity to learn them in school years. But good knowledge of mathematics is a question of diligent studies at school. Well, if the school is not simple, and physical and mathematical. Even better, if the young programmer takes part in mathematical Olympiads and has the appropriate diplomas.
If finances allow, you can go to study abroad (there the corresponding programs are called Computer Science or Computing). Abroad, the bachelor’s program of this direction is designed for 3-4 years of study. Then you can enter the 1-2-year master’s program.
Here and there students study the same thing: architecture and computer systems, programming languages, organization of information systems and other subjects. Plus education abroad – more modern material and technical base: computers newer, better equipped laboratories, the Internet is everywhere and works faster.
But you have to study all your life. New versions of programs are constantly released, the characteristics of the equipment are updated. All this should be closely monitored, no wonder in this area so common short courses leading to the receipt of certificates of ownership of certain programs.
