Profession – web master
The user does not think how much is needed to “click” the mouse to open the page. He did not have to think – the main thing that was convenient and, preferably, beautiful. And about technical issues a headache from the Creator of the site – web-master.
In fact, the web master is a very vague concept. After all, in order to create a properly working site, you need the efforts of at least three specialists: web-programmer (combining writing programming with site administration), web-designer and content editor. And that their child is not decayed, and the “spin” on the world wide web, but you still need the Manager, marketing and advertising.
But such a narrow specialization can only be in large design studios. Basically, the work of the web-master is similar to the work of a repairman, who does all kinds of work: from plumbing to floor scraping. Web-master must combine the incompatible: to be both a mathematician and an artist, to be able to communicate with the client, to formulate a technical task, to program and own the most complex graphic packages. To be talented in everything – the lot of units.

Specialty this young. And it comes either programmers who have learned the basics of design, or designers who have mastered web-programming. Education, combining these two aspects, does not yet exist, although today in Moscow institutes (for example, in MIREA) are trying to create faculties of web-mastering. But sooner or later, the creators of the sites will still face the need to “disperse into professions” – within one education it is very difficult to fully train and design, and not truncated programming.
Today web-master must be able to:
identify in conversation with the customer the architecture and logic of the future site, take into account the wishes concerning the design and formulate the terms of reference;
work with databases (SQL, Postgres, etc.));
develop a company style (or maintain an existing one);
work with graphics packages (Photoshop, Corel Draw, Flash, etc.).);
place and optimize graphics;
make up pages in html;
debug the site to work in any browser, ensuring code compatibility;
install and configure the appropriate web server and mail server to ensure their protection and stable operation. This requires knowledge of the NT+IIS and Unix(FreeBSD, Linux…)+Apache;
to conduct advertising campaigns on the Internet, to be able to work with the main banner networks, to communicate with advertising agencies and advertisers, to negotiate with the administrators of other sites on the mutual exchange of banners and links.
How much is the site for the people?
The designer is traditionally the most expensive employee (from $800 and above), because his work involves the author’s brand and copyright. Especially if the designer “from scratch” creates the style of the company. Then all subsequent advertising and printing products will be tied to the style of the site, which created the designer. Next on the cost are programming (from $600) and content editor (from $500). These figures – the initial price, the “ceiling” can also be at sky-high altitudes.
Both private owners and studios work with the client on two schemes: the first involves the product and its transfer to the customer, and the second – constant maintenance of the site (support, “promotion”, protection, update, etc.). The cost of such support from a private web-master – from $100 to $300 per month. This money is a “good increase to the salary” of the web-master.
